Port Oiz is an anonymous sound artist based on the East Coast. Port Oiz creates music using many different techniques, including guitar, bass, and baritone, sampling, synthesis and loops.
Often, sounds are run through various effects and software to achieve a desired texture, but the origin of the sound is more often from hardware than software to begin with.
Port’s music conveys deep messages—without spoken words—about protest and the issues within our all-too-small global community. The music is protest. The music is meant to bring us together. The music is to be interpreted as one hears it, in the moment, within oneself.
I’ve always felt that people often struggle to see the true message behind art. For me, labels have always felt like a mask over self-expression. The same goes for my music. I don’t assign a meaning to anything; instead, I let the music speak for itself, leaving space for the listener to find their own meaning—whatever aligns with them in that moment. Along the way, I leave subtle hints—small traces of my vision woven throughout my creative journey, but never too much, so as not to steer anyone’s thoughts to align with mine.-PO
Each of these samples was made using different combinations of loops, software, and effects. All were hand-built and constructed through true experimentation — a common theme found throughout Port’s music.
